Traditional Hardwood Timber Fences
The most traditional way of fencing a farm is to use hardwood timber. The species of timbers used varies a bit by region however it’s commonly agreed that White Mahogany is the best lasting species at this point of time.
So why use hardwood posts for your rural fence:
- hardwood is naturally pest resistant
- it will not burn in a regular bush fire, whereby softwood will most certainly!
- timber is a renewable product
- you store carbon for the life of the post (carbon sequestration)
and most importantly you get that traditional rural look for your property! This is especially sought after by people building on acreages and we do a lot of work for customers wanting to give their special spot a rural feel whilst ensuring that their animal are kept on their property. However many of our farmer customers are still going for a traditional fence. If your property is water logged, full of White Ants or is has high soil acidity and longevity of your fence is most important than read about concrete posts here.
Traditional timber hardwood fences come in two main types:
- Post and Wire and
- Post and Rail.
