As you are well aware fences are quite expensive to build and sometimes they don’t last as long as they should. We recently replaced a cattle fence built from hardwood strainers and splits that was no older than 15 years and was no longer functional because most of the posts where totally eaten out by white ants. Another issue with hardwood fencing is that fires are now hotter than they used to be and the posts will burn more readily than they used to even white mahogany posts are affected. Much of this might be due to the timber splitting soon after installation and this might be why fire is having a more devastating effect.

At the end of the bush fires around Macksville, in January of 2020 I saw a lot of burnt out fences including funnel entrances, which were only a few years old.

This is where newer fencing materials come into their own such as concrete and steel. Both of these materials are obviously pest and fire proof and engineering has shown that for example a 100NB metal pipe strainer has about the same strength as a 12-14″ hardwood strainer.

We at Wolf Rural Fencing have developed a system to build steel live stock fences that rival traditional hardwood timer posts and wire, without compromising quality, ensuring that they last for at least 40 years!

Our fencing system is the combination of:

  • quality, galvanished materials that all work together, there are no weak spots in the chain and no chemical interaction between themspecialised tools and equipment, which includes drivers to drive all metal posts including 100NB strainers
  • highly trained fencers
  • specific work procedures, PPE and work standards to build to the required standards
  • maintainable fencing components that will allow you to easily maintain the fence over time such as adjustable End-assemblies and permanent in-line wire strainers
  • we use the Waratah JIO system together with the blue long life wires to reduce labour and ensure longevity of all wires
  • We use maxy posts instead of split to strengthen the fence to meet the expected pressure, eg maxy as evry third post for cattle and every fifth for sheep

This allows us to reduce the time it takes to build fences, which in turn reduces the cost to you. We have developed this system over many years as specialised all metal live stock fencers and on which we constantly improve and innovate to make the system even better.

Here are some of the reasons our system allows us to build quality live stock fences at a much lower cost than the traditional approach:

  • reduced time required to install the fence
  • reduced transport and storage costs for the materials
  • size of machinery, we don’t require a tractor and therefore don’t need a truck to transport the tractor
  • Our largest driver, to drive strainer posts, hangs of a crane of the back of a 4×4 ute, all other petrol post drivers are hand held
  • specialised equipment to reduce all aspects of the install operated by highly trained and experienced crew
  • some reduction on material costs because of the quantities we buy

Why is all of this important to you? We aim to be the most efficient live stock fence builders to reduce the amount of money you need to spend on fencing to allow you to spend more on other farm inputs to help you become a even more efficient farmer!

The types of fences we can build for you are:

  • cattle fences, posts and typically 5 barb long life wires
  • horse fencing, typically 1300mm high built using 40NB pipe posts capped, a white horse sight wire and 3 plain wires under that
  • sheep fences, posts, wires and mesh, typically 1200mm high with 900mm high mesh 8/90/30
  • goat fences similar to above or higher depending on your breed
  • Alpaca fences, typically 1200mm high with 1200mm high mesh. 8/115/15
  • dog fences, typically 1200mm high with 1200mm high mesh 12/120/15 or higher if required for your breed of dogs
