Technically you need a funnel entrance to allow you to pull of the road while open or shutting the gate. However they are also a great feature of your boundary fence.

Traditionally a funnel entrance is built using hardwood timber posts and 3 timer rails. We’ve developed and variation of this using round metal posts and timber rails. This makes it more cost effective but also avoids using timber posts that often don’t last in our harsh conditions. Even when sealing them they still usually split and once they split they will start to rot, are more vulnerable to pests and especially fire. Below is a picture of an entrance post that the owner kept well sealed but has still split very significantly:

To avoid this but still get a great look we can build your funnel entrance using round metal posts together with hardwood timber rails. Another benefit of this style is that using the brackets together with bolts to attach the rails to the posts creates a connection that is very resistance to environmental damage. Below are some pictures of this style of entrance that we built at my own farm in Hilldale.

As a price guide this entrance as follows:

  • 6m funnel backset (to 3m panels as shown above)
  • 3 hardwood timber rails 150x50mm and 3m long per panel
  • 4.2m (14′) farm mesh gate and gate hardware
  • stays where the strainers connect to your existing fence and the wires reconnected and restrained

is $3,500 including GST. Removal of your old fence and or clearing of the entrance area by excavator is additional.

In addition to the standard entrance as outlined above we can also build:

  • using a 5-bar gate with a sign showing your property name
  • install an automatic gate closer
